Advocacy Training for CARE International

DeveloAID collaborated with CARE International to deliver advocacy training for civil society organizations (CSOs) and youth leaders across Yemen. The initiative was part of CARE’s “Foundation for Peace” (FFP) program, designed to promote stability by strengthening the capacity of local actors to address community needs through advocacy and engagement with decision-makers.

Project Overview

The training targeted youth-led organizations and CARE’s local partners in Sana’a, Aden, and Taiz governorates, focusing on building their skills to engage in conflict-sensitive advocacy. The program emphasized practical tools for mobilizing advocacy efforts and fostering dialogue between communities and local councils. The overarching goal was to empower participants to influence policy decisions and contribute to peacebuilding through inclusive and effective advocacy practices.

As a lead consultant, DeveloAID undertook the following responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Designed and implemented a training program tailored to local contexts, covering core advocacy concepts, conflict sensitivity, and practical strategy development.
  • Capacity Building: Delivered three rounds of three-day workshops, engaging participants through interactive sessions, group exercises, and real-world case studies.
  • Strategic Guidance: Facilitated the development of advocacy plans, guiding participants in identifying community needs, stakeholder analysis, and actionable strategies for engagement.

The program incorporated innovative methodologies, including:

  1. Interactive Learning: Exercises such as actor mapping and problem tree analysis enabled participants to identify conflict drivers and design targeted advocacy interventions.
  2. Scenario-Based Workshops: Simulations and role-playing scenarios helped participants practice negotiation and communication skills in conflict-sensitive settings.
  3. Customized Content: Adjustments to training topics and depth ensured alignment with participants’ diverse backgrounds and local dynamics.
